2025 Town of Ponoka Utility Rates Take Effect January 1

The 2025 Town of Ponoka Utility Rate Bylaw was approved by Ponoka Town Council at a recent meeting.
Overall, a family using 20 cubic metres of water per month will see an estimated monthly utility rate increase of 3.8 per cent or $5.78 for water, sewer, curbside waste collection and storm sewer fees in 2025.
The 2025 utility rates reflect inflationary cost increases based on an estimated annual Alberta Consumer Price Index (CPI) for 2025. The rates also reflect ongoing direction given by the Alberta provincial government which advises that utility services be self sustaining and discourages municipalities from using property taxes or grant funding to help pay for utilities.
The 2025 utility rates will include the following:
- Water consumption rates and flat rates will increase by CPI;
- Sewer consumption and flat rates will increase by CPI;
- Curbside waste collection fees will increase by 3.6 per cent to cover operational costs; and
- A new monthly storm drainage system fee of $2 for residential and $2.50 for commercial will cover operational and capital costs for that utility in order for it to be self-sustaining in accordance with provincial government direction.
