Stay Safe this Winter

Person walking along a sidewalkIf you’re heading out for a winter walk, watch for icy patches that can cause slips and falls, and take precautions to stay safe:

  • Wear footwear with good traction. Avoid smooth-soled shoes and boots that increase the risk of slipping.
  • When there’s ice below, take it slow:
    • Try taking slow, flat-footed, shuffle-like steps, with your feet pointed outward slightly for better balance.
    • Keep your weight centred over your feet with your arms at your sides (not in your pockets).

The Town of Ponoka regularly monitors and maintains Town roadways, trails and sidewalks that border Town-owned properties - sanding, salting and clearing snow as needed throughout the winter.

Please help keep our community safe by keeping sidewalks that border your property clear of ice and snow, and by reporting icy conditions that need attention.
