New Town of Ponoka Notification Service and App Coming Soon

Beginning in October, the Town of Ponoka will roll out a new Notification Service that will include an app that residents can download to their smartphones.

The new service will send out alerts to keep residents informed of utility service disruptions, as well as large-scale, local emergencies that may require citizens to take immediate action to protect their safety.

How to Subscribe

Town of Ponoka residents who receive a monthly utility bill will be automatically enrolled to receive these alerts through the primary phone number and address associated with their utility bills. They will initially receive alerts via recorded voice calls. Following the introductory phone call they receive in October, they can choose how they want to receive alerts. For example, they can download the Voyent Alert app to receive notifications on their phone, or they can register online to receive alerts via email or text instead of recorded voice calls.

All other Town citizens and visitors will need to subscribe in October once the new system is launched. At that time, they can download the app to their phones or register online to receive alerts via text, phone and/or email.

Receive Critical Information Quickly

“The Town is providing this new notification service to help ensure that Town residents receive critical information quickly about any utility service disruptions that affect their access to utilities such as water and power. This could include, for example, a planned power outage to conduct electrical maintenance on our electrical system in town; or a watermain break that may require water service along a particular street to be temporarily turned off while repairs are completed,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson.

“The new notification service will also help ensure Ponoka residents and visitors are kept informed in the event of an unexpected, large-scale emergency that could threaten lives or property in our community. For example, an extreme weather event like a tornado,” he added.

The Town will use the Voyent Alert system to send out these notifications. The service will be free for all users.

Non-Emergency Alerts

Once the new service launches in October, citizens can also sign up for optional non-emergency alerts about important and helpful Town information such as road closures, waste collection reminders, snow and ice control updates, etc.
