Accepted Items at the Waste Transfer Station

The Ponoka Waste Transfer Station collects a large variety of items for disposal and recycling, including:

  • Asphalt
  • Box springs and mattresses
  • Compostable yard materials
  • Concrete
  • Electronics
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Household batteries
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Metal (general scrap, cable and wire)
  • Oil containers and filters
  • Propane tanks
  • Recyclable items
  • Rubble (if from a fire it must be clean and separated)
  • Solid waste (garbage, furniture, drywall, toilets, shingles)
  • Vehicle tires without rims
  • Bicycle tires without inner tubes
  • Used oil
  • Used tires
  • Vehicle batteries
  • White goods (freezers, refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves, washers and dryers)
  • Wood (treated, painted, and/or stained wood, as well as particle board; must be cut into five-foot-long and three-foot-wide pieces and placed in the blue building at the Waste Transfer Station)
