Council Meeting Highlights for January 27, 2026

Regular Meeting of Council: 

4.1      Ponoka Fire Department

The Ponoka County Regional Fire Services presented its 2025 calls for service statistics in the Town of Ponoka.

6.1      Ponoka Jubilee Library Board Appointments/Reappointments

Council raised the motion from the table and passed motions to reappoint the following individuals to the Ponoka Jubilee Library Board for the specified terms: 

  • Alana Cissell for a 21-month term effective January 13, 2026 to October 31, 2027; and
  • Sharon Rowland for a three-year term effective January 13, 2026 to December 31, 2028.

7.1      Navigation Centre

Council tabled a Notice of Motion for Administration to examine the opportunity for a Navigation Pop-Up Centre in Ponoka.

10       Correspondence Items

Council accepted the following correspondence items as presented:

  • Letters from the St. Augustine School Principal and School Council requesting the Town consider addressing traffic concerns along 45 Avenue.
  • A letter from the Ponoka Drop-In Centre thanking the Town of Ponoka for an operating grant of $2,500 for 2026.
  • Mayor Ferguson sent a letter of congratulations on behalf of Town Council to students, staff and administrators at Mamawi Atosketan Native School on being the awarded the 2026 Zayed Sustainability Prize. 

11       Information Items

Council accepted the following information items as presented:

  • Family & Community Support Services Board Meeting Minutes
  • North Red Deer River Water Services Commission Meeting Minutes 

13.1    Closed Session

Following a Closed Session, Town Council ratified a two-year collective agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 254 for the period of January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027.

Next Regular Council Meeting: Tuesday, February 10 at 6 p.m.
