Ponoka RCMP invite community members to get engaged with the Citizens on Patrol Program

After speaking with community members and groups, Ponoka RCMP have discovered that within the community there are many crime conscious individuals that would like to help contribute to crime reduction in the community.  The Ponoka RCMP have a long-standing relationship with the Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP).  The COPP is a community led program where members assist in reducing crime in their communities by being the “eyes and ears” for both their community and law enforcement agency.

The goals of COPP include:

  • Deterrence – including observation, documentation and reporting to provide presence in the community patrolling by vehicle, foot, bicycle, etc.
  • Education – of volunteers about crime prevention
  • Awareness – of suspicious and dangerous unusual activities in a community
  • Safety – of members

If you would like to join the COPP and do not have a criminal record they are ready to talk to you. Please contact Kelly Budd at 403-704-3194 or visit Ponoka RCMP.

Programs such as this are the most effective way to help your community.

Actively engaging in non-sanctioned illegal activities to fight crime can result in unfortunate circumstance such as injury, criminal charges, or civil liability.
