Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The Town of Ponoka, which is located on Treaty 6 territory, is observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation today (Tuesday, September 30) to recognize and commemorate the history of residential schools.
To honour the importance of this day, the Town flags at the Ponoka Civic Centre have been lowered to half-mast.
Orange Shirt Day
Today is Orange Shirt Day, which is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools and to recognize that “Every Child Matters."
We encourage citizens to wear orange to honour the thousands of survivors of residential schools.
