Join Us Online for the Launch of Highway 53 Corridor Improvements and Sod Turning Ceremony
The Town of Ponoka has partnered with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (ATEC) to begin extensive improvements and rehabilitation of Highway 53 (between Highway 2A and 38 Street) this summer in Ponoka.
Members of the public are invited to join us online for the launch of the project at an official sod turning on Friday, June 27 at 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting). The event will be livestreamed on the Town of Ponoka Facebook page @Town of Ponoka.
The sod turning ceremony will include:
- Remarks from the Alberta Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, Devin Dreeshen and Town of Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson;
- An overview of the highway rehabilitation and improvement project, which includes pavement resurfacing and concrete repairs, new signal lights at the 46 Street intersection, and more;
- The formal renaming of Highway 53 in the Town of Ponoka.
The project will be jointly funded by Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors and the Town of Ponoka.
Construction for the Highway 53 corridor rehabilitation and improvement project is expected to begin in July (after the Ponoka Stampede) and to be completed in 2026.
