The Ponoka Aquaplex will host a variety of fun, free activities in recognition of National Drowning Prevention Week from July 20 to 26.

Over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year. National Drowning Prevention Week helps build skills and awareness about these incidents in an effort to prevent these types of tragedies.

The activities planned at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue) include:

• A Free Swim and Free Outdoor Community Barbecue – On Tuesday, July 22, the free swim and community barbecue will run from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will move indoors at the Aquaplex if it rains.

• A daily ‘Swim to Survive’ skills challenge – During public swim.

• A daily Pool Scavenger Hunt during public swim – Participants can find items around the pool and be entered in a draw to win a prize.
