Disc Golf Course Planned for the Town of Ponoka
The Town of Ponoka is excited to announce the upcoming development of a new 18-hole disc golf course at Riverside Rotary Park thanks to a generous $15,000 donation from the Ponoka Arts, Recreation and Culture Society (PARCS). Construction of this new recreation facility is set to begin in the spring of 2025.
“The Town of Ponoka is proud to partner with PARCS to bring a year-round disc golf course to our community and provide the opportunity for citizens to experience this fast-growing sport. This new recreational amenity will welcome all ages and skill levels, and we anticipate it will attract visitors to Ponoka, boosting community pride and tourism,” said Andrew Jones, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities for the Town of Ponoka.
Disc golf, often described as a blend of traditional golf and frisbee, has gained popularity for its accessibility, low cost and inclusive nature due to the sport’s minimal equipment requirements. Players use flying discs to complete a course by aiming for chain baskets, making it a sport that’s easy to learn yet challenging to master. The game appeals to everyone, from families looking for outdoor fun to avid enthusiasts seeking a competitive edge.
“We are very excited to bring disc golf to Ponoka. This initiative aligns with PARCS’ mission to enrich our community through expanded physical activity and recreation opportunities,” said Amanda Henderson-Kada, Board Chair for PARCS. “The course will be a space for both casual play and organized events, offering a unique way for people to connect and enjoy our community,” she added.
The planned course at Riverside Rotary Park (on 46 Street and 38 Avenue) will take advantage of Ponoka’s natural landscape, providing a scenic and engaging experience for players. Details about when the new disc golf course will be open for public use will be announced in 2025.
