Town of Ponoka Celebrates U15 Girls’ Soccer Team as They Represent Alberta at Prestigious IberCup Tournament in Portugal

The Town of Ponoka is excited to cheer on the Ponoka Storm U15 girls' soccer team as they travel to Estoril, Portugal to compete in the prestigious IberCup tournament next week, July 1-7!

The Ibercup is one of the largest international youth soccer tournaments in the world!

These talented athletes from Ponoka, Lacombe, Stettler, Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Camrose will be proudly representing their communities on the world stage!

Let’s show them the support they deserve as they prepare to compete in Europe.  Some of their many accomplishments to date include:

  • Winning gold at the U13 Tier 3 outdoor provincials ;
  • Placing second at the U15 Tier 2 indoor provincials ; and
  • Competing successfully against larger city teams with deep rosters, despite coming from a club of just 300 players.

Last month, Mayor Kevin Ferguson and MLA Jennifer Johnson showed their support by attending a game and expressing their appreciation for these athletes, who are making Ponoka and Canada proud.

These young athletes have not only put Ponoka on the Alberta Soccer map. They are now about to represent Alberta and Canada on the world stage!

Let’s go team! You've got this! You make us so proud!
