Council Meeting Highlights for March 25, 2025

6.1      Annexation Board Order 019/11 Bylaw Options

Administration brought forth four bylaw options for Council’s consideration to help soften the change from the County tax rate to the Town rate that is set to occur in 2026 for annexed properties affected by the Annexation Board Order MGB 019/11.

Council passed a motion directing Administration to bring forward the four Bylaw options to an upcoming Priorities and Initiatives meeting. 

7.1      Notice of Motion – Business Advertising

Council passed a motion directing Administration to bring the following Notice of Motion back to the next meeting of Council on April 8 as Councillor David (who requested this Notice of Motion at the March 11 Council meeting) was absent from the meeting (March 25):

  • That Administration look into the feasibility of the Town of Ponoka partnering with, or offering small businesses registered with the Town, opportunity for promoting, advertising or wayfinding options or in creating advertising awareness. 

7.3      Administrative Support for the Ponoka Jubilee Library

Council passed a motion to defer a decision to provide additional gift in kind supports to the Ponoka Public Library to the discussion of the 2025 final budget, scheduled for the April 15 Priorities and Initiatives meeting.

Council also passed a motion to begin the April 15 Priorities and Initiatives meeting at 5 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. to allow more time for discussion of the 2025 final budget which is scheduled to be discussed at that meeting before coming back to Council for consideration and approval on April 22.

7.4      2024 Year-End Operating Surplus & Reserve Allocation

Council approved a motion to transfer the estimated 2024 operating surplus of $1.7 million dollars to the General Benefit Reserve. 

7.5      Unaudited Operating & Capital Statement

Council accepted as information the December 2024 Unaudited Operating and Capital Statements as presented.

  • Next Regular Council Meeting: Tuesday, April 8 at 6 p.m.
  • Next Priorities and Initiatives Meeting: Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m.
  • The public is welcome to attend all Council meetings. Meetings are held in Town Council Chambers on the third floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre (5604 50 Street).
