Green Carts Are Not for Garbage

Did you know that when a non-compostable item is thrown into a Green Cart – even just a single plastic bag – the whole truckload of compostable waste must be sent to the landfill?

That means extra costs for transportation and landfill fees. 

Those costs eventually get passed down to residents in their utility bills to pay for the increased cost of curbside waste collection.

That’s one reason why the Town is asking you to place only compostable waste in your Green Cart to help divert more waste from the landfill.
