Clayton Nelson - Councillor

I love Ponoka and am committed to fiscal responsibility, public safety, and sustainable community growth, with innovative revenue initiatives to support services without heavy reliance on taxes. I value transparent governance and welcome resident feedback to help make Ponoka a safe, vibrant place for families. 

About

  • Born and raised in Ponoka (third generation).
  • Proud father of three sons and a grandfather.

Council History

  • Serving third term (2017-2021, 2021-2025, and 2025-2029) as Town Councillor.

Current Occupation

  • Extensive professional experience in operations, security, surveillance, and management across industries, including gaming, pharmaceuticals, recycling, and utilities.
  • Holds security clearances from Alberta, Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis and Health Canada.

Community Involvement

  • Has been busy raising his family and working two to three jobs for the past 20 years.
  • Served as Vice Chair of the Southern Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Institute of Management, 2013-2017.
  • Loves serving the community as a member of Town Council and Council committees.

Education

  • Recently earned the Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.) designation through executive courses at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, via the Canadian Institute of Management.
  • Mount Royal University Cannabis Production Plant and Facility Management Certificate.
  • Fourth Class Power Engineer through SAIT Polytechnic.
  • Currently taking management certification from Canadian Institute of Management, which has been put on hold due to Town Council responsibilities.

Personal Interests

  • Loves cooking Sunday dinners at his house and spending time with family.
  • Enjoys gardening, hunting and reading.
